Root Mamma Open Mic

  • Root Mamma 236 Richardson Street #1B Brooklyn, NY, 11222 United States (map)

Express yourself and show off your soulful talent at this monthly semi-acoustic open mic night!

Artists and musicians of all kinds are welcome- bring your guitar, your harp, your voice, your poetry, or your singing bowls! This night is an open forum for any of your performative expressions that you wish to share with the world and the Root Mamma community. We are a spiritual space, so are definitely open to music leaning more towards that side of things, but your music by no means needs to be that to be played here. All music and poetry are expressions of your authentic self- and THAT is what we are hoping to share with one another, in a safe and welcoming space! Beginners welcome! Bring your rough pieces, bring your nerves, bring your vulnerability! We are here to hear you.

This open mic is semi-acoustic. This means that we have one small amp that can be used if needed for backing tracks or light amplification (BYO cable), but no microphones or other speakers will be set up. The space is cozy and intimate and sound carries really well here- there really is no need for amplification in order to be heard.

Sign up will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Come early to secure your spot! We will set aside the last 30 minutes for an open soundscape/ jam session for anyone who'd like to join in.

Root Mamma is a sacred space, and out of respect to that, we ask that no alcohol be brought to the space. We will have kombucha or other delicious non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase, and water available, or feel free to bring your own!

We are asking for a $5-$15 donation to support the space and our energetic efforts, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds!

See you there, with your beautiful music!
